powerful sure, but not powerful enough
If you can't do any kind of click-tracking on external or HTML ads, if you can't organize your ads by client or campaign, if you can't even create an ad without clearing your cache, if you can't stand to pull out the calculator every time you need to check stats for a client, if you can't divide your impressions evenly over a period of time, and if you don't necessarily like the Drupal way of doing everything on your site, then why bother?
I use OpenX. It's free, way more intuitive, and only slightly buggy at first, but you can do way more with it. Not to mention your clients will enjoy receiving such features as fine-tuned campaigns and automatic weekly email reports.

Very powerful
I was quite amazed how much this module is capable of — it far exceeded my expectations. It's well written code by a veteran who frequents the issue queues regularly and is quick to squash bugs.
It would have scored a 5 for features, only I don't like the way loading the ads delays rendering of the page. It was easy enough to patch it to use jQuery to load the ads after page rendering though.
However, I struck a serious problem when I used the Devel module to generate content and it added ads and ad categories which broke things in mysterious ways.
Overall, a very useful module for a commercial site.

Switched from custom code to ad module
I found and installed the Ad module after using custom php to display my ads. This has a lot of great features, including a number of different ways to display the ads, either a flash ad, a standard banner, a text ad etc. I'm currently using 3 different sized banners which are rotating.
I'm also using the text ads for peoples profiles, not really ads but I like the stats gathered by the module.
