Features works great for us because we have a multi-site setup, and code needs to be pushed to a great deal of sites without logging in. Combined with Strongarm and Drush, its a lifesaver
Features appears to be a well loved module. I find the UI is VERY slow-- the Ajax call with each checkbox turns it into multi-hour exercise. It is suggested that I use Drush or edit the code generated directly. It would be easier and more solid to just do MySQL dumps of the relevant tables that hold configs.
