There's a much better way

I used this until I discovered Nodeaccess, which allows you to grant permissions to users based upon roles, and for any node, including forum posts.

Misses one major feature...

The module works just fine, but there is a major flaw:
Moderators cannot erase a reply to a topic but just a whole topic.
I thought that this is what moderators should actually do - erase or edit comments of users to a forum topics if they're inadequate, but it doesn't. PITY LIKE HELL!

Handy for forums you want to restrict access to

This is a terrific module for limiting access to forums; works out of the box with easy-to-understand instructions. Very powerful and reliable, plays nicely with other content access modules.
