Insanely Impractical
While the Gallery2 setup is fairly ok (still some click orgies to go through), the embedding module is a no go.
After hours of debugging I realized that there is a version mismatch between what the module expects and the GalleryEmbed class. But except a "something went wrong somewhere" message there is no other official feedback.
I got tired trying out different versions and eventually gave up. Fingers off!

Don't waste your time!
I just spent 2 1/2 hours of my night trying to get this module and the main Gallery 2 (full version) download to work. What a waste. This module loaded OK, but it couldn't find the root directory of Gallery 2, no matter which way I entered. With out getting this figured out, a config.php file won't create to allow the rest of the set-up process. If you are looking for a photo/video gallery for your Drupal site--don't even try download this module.

Worth the learning curve!
There are numerous options for photo galleries when it comes to the Drupal CMS. I know because I think I tried them all.
Gallery 2 is by far the most all encompassing, complete, well organized gallery you can use. It doesn't come without a price though.
It is fairly simple to set up Gallery 2 as a stand alone application on your host. The Gallery module developed for Drupal does a good job of integrating it into your Drupal site.
The bigger problem is the lack of clear concise documentation to not only get it up and running but to properly syncronize it with your Drupal site. But once you do, look out -- it is absolutely an amazing addition to any website.
My advice, take your time, print out the read-me sections and follow them step-by-step on all the different install settings. If you run into a problem, the documentation is out there in the form of forums and stuff. Look for whatever it is that applies to your problem and you will get it corrected.
My review is only in how it works with 5.xx version of Drupal. I have not even begun to look at upgrading to the new 6.xxx version.

Powerful, but difficult
Gallery is a very powerful module with more features and plugins than any other image gallery for Drupal. However, this power does come at a cost.
The main drawback to this module is that it's essentially just a wrapper for the real Gallery program. In other words, you must install and configure Gallery and then use this module to embed it into Drupal.
This embedding process is tricky, but fairly well documented. I ran into problems getting user accounts and clean URLs to synchronize between Drupal and Gallery, and it occasionally broke my site completely. Eventually, I managed to get it working, but it wasn't easy.
Gallery is also themed differently than Drupal: It relies on a templating system called Smarty. It's not difficult to learn, but if you're not good at theming, this may be one more reason to look elsewhere.
Feature-wise, Gallery is excellent. There are numerous plugins that can give you almost any feature you might want from an image gallery. EXIF information, automatic multiple image resizing, multi-level folders, passworded folders, and more. It even does other content types, like video and music.
If you have the time and knowledge to maintain two different open source projects, and keep them running side by side, Gallery has a lot to offer. If you're looking for a simple, minimum-effort solution, this isn't it.
