The module is not a substitute to the regular language switcher text-links block supplied by the Internationalization package. Rather, it complements it. The problem is that search engines don't follow the javascript links on the selection list. You will still have to put the regular language links somewhere else for SEO reasons.
This module is impossible to style. It's using some arcane drop down library. I understand that something like that is needed to display the language image, but the chosen library is no good.
The alternative is to use the module as a normal un-styled select box, then it works. Bottom line if the look in the screenshot or a "native" select box work for you, go for it. If you need to style this, its not worth the effort.
