Excellent tool
Great tool - needed email notification on creation of specific node types. Rules made it a breeze.

Awsome functionality
This module more or less allows you to write mini-modules in a GUI. Having them written by Rules instead of by hand makes them more reliable, understandable, portable, configurable and safe – there is simply no way you can write bad code (like direct database queries or using non-filtered user imput).
A great bonus is that Rules is written in a format supported by the Features module, making it easy to bundle features for export or version control.
In short: This module kicks ass.

makes your system "intelligent"
i really love this feature. now you are able to let your system perform defined tasks on certain events. quite easy to understand, but still a bit limited in available features (when you don´t know how to ship around it) and some features i still do not understand at all.
enhancement/importing etc. of rules seems to be possible, but thats more experts stuff i fear.
but with the growing number of modules supporting rules, there might not be the need to dive into complex code yourself in the future.

Efficient problem solving
When you need complex action->response automation, give the Rules module a try. A lot of custom modules could probably be replaced by a few lines of PHP evaluation inside a rule set.
Example usage: Automatically send an email to your translator when new foreign language content has been added to your site.

Rules saves time and offers boundless potential!
If you want to extend your site easily with amazing functionality, this is your module. I'll show a few examples of what people have done, but by no means could this be a comprehensive list:
- If user has role X and content type is Y, then publish node on save.
- When a user creates an event, automatically flag them as a volunteer.
- When a user un-volunteers, redirect them to site calendar.
- Send email with [token:xyz] and details [uvw] to user when they volunteer.
- When a user logs in and doesn't have role 'student,' add user to student role if email is "*@ufl.edu"
